Synopsis by Nathan Southern
As its title implies, this documentary discusses recorded sound and image as technological developments gradually enabled and accentuated them over the course of history. It commences with Thomas Edison's legendary recording of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" in 1877, and argues that this pivotal event marked a watershed moment in history that led to successive generations' abilities to record sound in a host of ways. The program then moves ahead in time to discuss the recording of movie soundtracks and how it evolved technologically over time, and inspects the human ear and human eye in detail to witness the astonishing ways in which they process these external elements.
