Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
This silent comedy-drama is something unusual as a Danish sci-fi story! Written by novelist Sophus Michaelis and the founder of the Great Northern Company, Ole Olsen, Himmelskibet starred Gunnar Tolnæs as the brave Avanti Planetaros (!), who travels to the planet Mars. Once there, he falls in love with a pretty Martian (Lily Jacobsen) and together they return to Planet Earth to spread the Martian theories of love, peace and understanding, a timely message indeed in the midst of World War I. One of the Great Northern's biggest undertakings, Himmelskibet was filmed in a rock quarry south of the Danish capitol of Copenhagen.
