Originally presented in six parts by the Comedy Central cable network, this miniseries discussed the historical and cultural background of Jewish humor, celebrated the icons of the form, and spotlighted up-and-coming Jewish comedians of the 21st century. The self-explanatory episode titles included "Lack of Inhibitions," "Tragedy + Time," "Being the Other," "Tradition Broken?," "Joan Rivers Talks," and "The New Insult Comics." Among the performers represented herein were Joan Rivers, Sandra Bernhard, Lewis Black, Judy Gold, Fran Drescher, Hank Azaria, Jon Lovitz, Richard Lewis, Sarah Silverman, and Gilbert Gottfried. Heroes of Jewish Comedy was seen on a nightly basis beginning July 7, 2003.
