French dancer Gaby Deslys stars in this picture, which supposedly mirrors her own rise to stardom -- with a few dramatic flourishes. Gaby is an understudy to a haughty star who thinks she can have whatever she wants, including the show's leading comedian (Harry Pilcer, Deslys dance partner in real life). But Pilcer has fallen for Gaby, and when the star finds out she threatens to walk off the show unless Gaby is discharged. The theater manager refuses her request and she follows through, leaving Gaby to take her place. Instead of the debacle the star expects, Gaby makes a triumphant debut and is on her way to stardom, with Pilcer by her side. The star sees her own popularity slipping away, and to save it, she has a couple of underworld figures kidnap her competition. Gaby's abduction is overheard by her blind sister, who phones Pilcer. He traces Gaby to a villa and, with the help of the police, breaks down the door and rescues her. Somewhere in the midst of all this intrigue and action, Deslys and Pilcer manage to fit in several dance numbers.
