Synopsis by Mark Deming
Fred Zinnemann directed this short subject from M-G-M's "Crime Does Not Pay" series, designed to help people avoid being taken in by con men. In Help Wanted, a bogus "employment agency" offers to help needy men find work, but only in exchange for a sizable payment up front; after paying the fees, the victims then discover they have no work to offer. Help Wanted stars Tom Neal, a B-picture leading man best remembered for his role in Edgar G. Ulmer's cult favorite Detour.
