Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Three children -- the son of a laborer, the daughter of an editor, and the son of a politician -- grow up in New York City. Bill Madden, the laborer's son (Robert T. Haines) grows up to work at construction while studying for a law degree. The politician's son, Victor Brown (C.E. Kimball), lusts after Bill's sister Mary (Isabelle Macgregor), who is working in a department store. When she spurns his advances, Victor drugs her and takes her to a house of ill repute. But she is freed by another girl who had suffered a similar fate. Bill earns his law degree and his efforts to stop a heroin dealer brings him to the attention of the editor's daughter, (Bess Sankey). He also earns the enmity of Victor's crooked father, Phineas (Willis Granger), who hires a hit man to get rid of him. But the hit man shoots Victor by mistake and Bill is accused of the murder. A witness reveals the true circumstances and when Phineas realizes he was the cause of his son's death, he collapses from a stroke of apoplexy. After Bill is acquitted, he marries the editor's daughter. This picture bears no relation to the 1932 Mervyn LeRoy picture of the same name.
