Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This provocatively titled documentary series was a co-production of the CBC, the Canadian Association for Adult Education, and the Canadian Institute on Public Affairs. Tied in with Justice Emmett Hall's ongoing efforts to establish a national health care service in Canada, the series detailed the present state of medicine in the Dominion, the needs of the patients, and comparisons with health programs in other countries. The four episodes bore such titles as "The Family," "The Doctor," "The Society," and "The Future"; each program was followed by a live debate, with doctors, politicians, journalists, and members of the general public participating. In addition to its TV run from May 3 to 24, 1965, Healthier, Wealthier, Wiser? was heard as a five-part public affairs effort on CBC radio.
