With only an old letter as a clue, Paladin begins a search for his client's brother, a no-account named Courtney Burgess (John Holland). Ultimately, Paladin finds Burgess hold up in an abandoned fort, ruled by a self-styled dictator (Robert Emhardt) suffering from typhoid fever. Making matters worse, a local Indian tribe has vowed to kill Burgess if he ever sets foot outside the accursed fort.
