Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The made-for-TV Hallelujah! stars Dennis Haysbert as the newest pastor at an influential Washington, D.C. church. When the reverend offers shelter to a pregnant teenager during the Christmas season, he is frowned upon by his hidebound superiors (could there be something symbolic in this, hmmm?) Figuring into the warm 'n' fuzzy proceedings is a homeless old man (James Earl Jones) and the town's well-meaning mayor (Phylicia Rashad). A note of suspense is introduced when the pastor is given only two days to prove his worthiness for his new post. Filmed in 1991, Hallelujah was first telecast December 22, 1993, on PBS' American Playhouse series.
