Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

It is mid-year in Damascus in 1967 when a young bureaucrat who sits just a half a meter away from the woman of his dreams on his bus ride into work each day is trying to find the courage to get their relationship off the bus and onto another, better track entirely. At the same time, animosity between Syria and Israel is increasing and before anyone can blink an eye, the 6-Day War has come and gone, leaving Syria in defeat and the Golan Heights lost to Israel. The damage to national prestige and territory parallels the damage the young man does to his budding relationship when he cannot assert himself at all. He is also as concerned with the way he looks as the nation is with its image, so that appearances take on a dominant force on both levels. In some ways, this is a tale of the micro- and macro-worlds spinning along similar patterns.
