Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This documentary surveys the history of the guillotine. This execution device was invented by the French physician Joseph Guillotin. The falling blade was envisioned as a method for beheading people in a quick fashion, with a minimum of pain. The French made use of the "National Razor" from the time of the French Revolution until well into the 20th century. The Scots had their "Maiden"; and perhaps the most efficient device was that used by the Nazi regime during World War II. The well-researched film has expert commentary and re-enactments.
