Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Also known as Nightingale, this period melodrama is historically important as the Soviet Union's first color film. Based on fact, the story concentrates on a worker's revolt in the Volga in 1910. The disgruntled workers are the female employees of a corrupt St. Petersburg factory owner. The incident that sparks the revolt is a factory fire which kills several employees and which was deliberately set by the owner to collect the insurance. The title character, a previously mild-mannered employee who becomes a revolutionary firebrand, is played by Valentina Ivasheva.
