The very first voyage taken by the ocean liner Queen Mary is documented in Great Ships: The Queen Mary's Maiden Voyage with footage taken by an amateur movie maker. The May 1936, passenger list was made up of many famous people, including society matrons, knights, and officials, who embarked from Southampton for New York City. The elegant 'floating city' offered its guests many amenities, and they could make use of nurseries and playrooms for children, as well as two chapels, a hospital, and a synagogue. The historic trip took a little over four days to complete.
