Synopsis by Kathleen Wildasin

Great Commanders: Julius Caesar -- The Battle of Alesia is one program in a six-volume history documentary series that focuses on military greats. The 45-minute film takes an in-depth look at Caesar -- the Roman politician who became a soldier in mid-life for the purpose of repaying financial debts -- and his military skills. You'll witness the commander's successes against Gallic, Germanic, and British forces as well as his victory at Alesia, where his men were outnumbered five to one. A highlight of the video includes 3-D computer animation which is used to illustrate military tactical skills. The other five tapes in the set are: Great Commanders: Alexander the Great -- The Battle of Issus, Great Commanders: Georgi Zhukov -- The Battle of Berlin, Great Commanders: Horatio Nelson -- The Battle of Trafalgar, Great Commanders: Napoleon Bonaparte -- The Battle of Austerlitz, and Great Commanders: Ulysses S. Grant -- The Battle of the Wilderness.
