Synopsis by Steve Blackburn

Part of a series that chronicles the Golden Age of British Steam Locomotives, this video tells the story of the London Midland and Scottish Railway line. The LM&S was one of the Big Four train systems formed in Britain in 1923 by the merging of many smaller rail companies. Featured here are interviews, numerous photographs, and archival film footage of older LM&S locomotives, as well as clips of nostalgic steam locomotive train trips. The first trains on earth were designed and built in England at the height of the British empire's world dominion. Many train aficionados believe that in the decades from 1930 to 1960, the fast, powerful express steam locomotives of Great Britain represented the apex of worldwide railroading.
