Synopsis by Brooke Hodess

Travel the world with the famed British navigator and explorer. From his not-so-humble beginnings as a privateer to his secretly commissioned expedition by Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake was hailed as the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. View footage of a replica of his sailing vessel, the Golden Hind, on which Drake outlasted his entire fleet while plundering ports and raiding Spanish settlements over his three-year journey. In addition, the film documents the defeat of the Spanish Armada at the hands of Drake, and his ultimate death caused by dysentery in 1596. The program includes a dramatization of Drake's 16th century high-sea adventures, as well as expert commentary.
