Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

An interesting attempt at something new, reportedly thought up by Universal's general manager Joe Brandt, Graft was a series in 20 episodes, each based on or written by a noted author. Among the celebrated scribes involved were Zane Grey, Irvin S. Cobb, Frederick Isham, Louis Joseph Vance, Robert Hughes, Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, and James Francis Dwyer. Hobart Henley starred as Bruce Larnigan, a young attorney delving into graft and corruption in various trusts. Unfortunately, Henley suffered an accident in chapter three and had to be replaced by cowboy actor Harry Carey in the remaining 17. Blond Jane Novak played the ingénue and the supporting cast included Richard Stanton, who also co-directed (with George A. Lessey), and such noted character players as Andrew Arbuckle, Rosita Marstini, Mark Fenton, L.M. Wells, and Hector V. Sarno. Future serial star Eddie Polo performed most of the stunts.
