Synopsis by Gönül Dönmez-Colin
A coming-of-age film, Gracias por la Propina tells the adventures of two orphan brothers raised by their bachelor uncles. A repressive school, an omnipresent church, peaceful brothels, and warm cafes of the Valencia of the 1960's and '70's where almost anything is possible are some of the backdrops to this Catalan tale of childhood and adolescent memories, rendered with humor and sensitivity. The film has participated in San Sebastian, Rio de Janeiro, Valladolid, Montpellier, San Juan, Buenos Aires, Annecy, Chicago, Istanbul, Trascon, Cardiff, Brussels, Stuttgart, Miami, Andorra, Montreal and Kerala Film Festivals and received the Best Director award in Peniscola, Spain and Best Screenplay award in Troia, Portugal.
