Privileged grandson of an Oklahoma senator, celebrated novelist (Myra Breckenridge), scriptwriter (Suddenly, Last Summer), playwright, essayist, actor, talk-show guest, and aspiring politician, Gore Vidal) is the subject of this documentary that chronicles his run for the Democratic nomination of U.S. Senator in the state of California. The literary and personal as well as comic side of Vidal are brought forward as he argues for getting the U.S. out of Central American internal politics, gets ready to debate Jerry Brown, and boldly confronts corporate representatives about the charges that their company has evaded taxes. Witty and intelligent and independent-minded throughout, Vidal sustains interest as he moves from one scenario to the next.
