Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Of the nearly two million people behind bars in the United States, at least ten percent of the prison population is female. This 40-minute documentary offers a guided tour of an all-woman prison in New Jersey, with candid interviews of the inmates and their relatives. Though grimness pervades the film, a glimmer of hope is offered by focusing on several women prisoners who are about to be released (sometimes with trepidations as to whether or not they'll be able to adjust to the outside world). Produced, directed, and photographed by Mark Benjamin, Going Home was originally telecast in tandem with the similarly themed cable TV documentary How Do You Spell Murder? on the Cinemax anthology series Reel Life.
