Synopsis by Mark Deming
Assembled from material the legendary pianist Glenn Gould shot during his many appearances on Canadian television, this volume of The Glenn Gould Collection focuses on his attitudes towards live performances and his controversial decision to retire from the concert stage at the age of 31 to focus exclusively on recordings. Gould also performs several selections, including Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 and Bagatelle, and Hindemith's Piano Sonata No. 3.
