Ginny Ruffner is an artist born in South Carolina and based in Seattle who has earned acclaim for her colorful and imaginative lamp-worked glass sculptures, earning critical respect for a medium little regarded in contemporary art circles. But while plenty of people are fans of Ruffner's work, many others are simply fans of her, citing her warmth, humor and spirit. Ruffner's positive outlook hasn't come easy; in 1991, she was the victim of an auto accident that put her into a coma for five weeks and led to a five month stay in the hospital. Ruffner was given poor odds of surviving the accident, and was not expected to walk or speak again, but despite it all she regained her speech and mobility, and has used her experiences to deepen and inform her work. Filmmaker Karen Stanton presents a witty and powerful look at a unique individual in the documentary (Ginny Ruffner: A Not So Still Life, which received the Audience Award at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival.
