This animated feature tells the story of a young cat named Giovanni and his friend Campanella. While caring for his sick mother, Giovanni leads a dismal existence, attending school and working to support his household. On the eve of the Festival of Stars, Giovanni and Campanella board a mysterious train that takes them on a trip across the galaxy. Along the way, the two cats and their fellow passengers embark on a journey full of fantasy and wonder and also learn about the realities of death and loss. Heartwarming and bittersweet, this Japanese film teaches a valuable but strong lesson to young children.
