Among the first anime of all time, Gigantor is one of the first tales in the now-classic genre of a boy and his giant robot. It begins with the premise that Dr. Haneda, a scientist of robotic research, was perfecting an army of giant fighting robots to combat the allied forces during World War II when his facilities were bombed, killing him and destroying his fleet of fighters. Some years later, however, it comes to light that a few of them remained. Now Shotaro, Dr. Haneda's surviving son, enlists the help of #28, the strongest of the robots, and, with the help of Dr. Shikashima, his father's old research partner, fights crime and even alien invaders.
