Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man eager to turn an unspoiled village into a tourist trap has a change of heart when he sees the land in question in this drama from writer and director Alex Tossenberger. Thomas Bullrich (Federico D'elia) is employed by a large multinational corporation who've sent him to Patagonia in the south of Argentina on a special assignment. Bullrich's employers want to build a resort hotel along the Valdés Peninsula, and it's his job to persuade the local residents to sell him their land. Bullrich doesn't know much about Patagonia before he arrives, but it doesn't take long for him to learn that his project would have a profoundly negative effect on the local economy and ecology. Bullrich is also impressed with the natural beauty of the Valdés Peninsula, and comes to love the land and its people as his allegiances shift from his employers to the people who call Patagonia home. Gigantes de Valdés (aka Valdés Giants) received its North American premiere at the 2008 Toronto World Film Festival.
