Synopsis by Mark Deming
Filmmaker Monika Treut, who has made a career out of documenting the outer edges of human sexual expression, takes a look at a group of politically- and socially-conscious transsexuals in a study of what one interview subject calls "gender elimination phenomena." Participants include adult film star and performance artist Annie Sprinkle, internet activist and self-styled "Goddess of Cyberspace" Sandy Stone, and the patrons of San Francisco Club Confidential, a popular meeting place for "gendernaut" activists. Gendernauts was shown in the "Panorama" section of the 1999 Berlin Film Festival.
