Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Even though his father refuses to sanction the union, Myron Leeds (Niles Welch) weds Mary (Rosina Henley) anyhow. He is promptly disowned, and when the father dies, he wills his whole estate to his eldest son, Roger (George MacQuarrie). Myron's attempts at being an artist aren't successful and he has to struggle very hard to support his wife and their little girl, Beth (Madge Evans). When Mary becomes pregnant again, the future looks even bleaker. The brothers aren't talking, so Myron doesn't know that life on the Leeds estate isn't much better. Roger's little boy drowns and his wife (Gerda Holmes) is inconsolable. Finally the old housekeeper Norah offers to take Beth in for a while to take a load off Mary. She passes the girl off as her niece and her sunny nature charms Roger and his wife. Myron, who has become desperate, tries to rob Roger's home. Roger wakes up and shoots at the unknown intruder, grazing Beth's arm. This accident reunites the family and Roger finally offers to help Myron out.
