Low-budget film director J.P. McGowan is responsible for this confusing Western which stars Franklin Farnum. All George Morgan (Ralph Yearsley) has left in life is his home and his child (Mary Louise Montague). Since his home is on the right of way of a water project, "Lightning" Cass intends to get his hands on it. In an attempt to pay his taxes, Morgan resorts to gambling. Cass' associate, Bud Fitzroy, plans to cheat him, but a stranger in town, Jack Stanford (Farnum), hears of the plot and wins the ranch himself. Cass murders Morgan, and when the dead man's sister-in-law, Mary Hartford (Ruth Dwyer), comes to town, he convinces her that Stanford is the killer. Cass' men steal the Morgan baby from Stanford, but he manages to get her back and prove to Mary that he is innocent. Cass kills Fitzroy in a fight over Mary, revealing his true character, and Mary escapes to the ranch. The sheriff arrests Cass for the murders, and Mary returns east. A little while later, Stanford shows up, and when he reveals that he is a member of an old New York family, Mary's father (Joseph W. Girard) is happy to give the couple his blessings.
