Released in tandem with the Gaumont comedy A Bag Race, Gambler's Doom is all about -- what else? -- a doomed gambler. The title character's wealthy uncle has good reason to believe that his ne'er-do-well nephew will murder him in order to get his hands on extra gambling money. Thus, the uncle sets up a movie camera in his living room, to catch the nephew in the act. When the gambler finally commits the dreadful deed, he tries to make it look like suicide -- but unfortunately for him, a camera never lies. Surprisingly, the "movie within a movie" gimmick in Gambler's Doom was not a new device in 1910.
