A successful advertising executive divides his time and affections between his wife and his mistress, a beautiful barmaid. His mistress expresses a desire to have a baby, and the childless man agrees. Troubles begin when the man's wife informs him that after ten years of marriage with no children, she is also pregnant. The wife tells her husband he is not the father of the child and that it is him, not her, who is sterile. To make things even worse, another older woman from his past shows up and claims her son is also this man's child. The ad man's world and career take a decidedly downward turn as he is overwhelmed by the unbelievable events of the pregnant women who surround him. Though by western standards, this particular subject matter would most likely be treated as comedy, this Japanese-made film is an earnest and thoughtful study of the emotions surrounding parenthood.
