Synopsis by Cammila Collar
In order to obtain something, something of equal value must be lost.: this is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange in the world in which Full Metal Alchemist takes place. When young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric lose their mother to an illness, they try to bring her back using the science of alchemy--a strange and powerful science that they've begun learning to follow in the footsteps of their estranged father. There are dire consequences to their attempt however, as the forces of alchemy demand something in return for whatever is created. Not only does the recreation of their mother fail, but in the process, Edward loses his arm and leg and Alphonse loses his entire body. Quick thinking Edward bonds his brother's soul to a suit of armor and with the help of his godmother, Pinako, receives metal auto-mail prosthetics for his lost limbs. Now, just barely teenagers, Edward and Alphonse must prepare for a long journey through distant lands and foreign wars in the hope of finding the fabled Philosopher's Stone: the only tool in alchemy that could restore their bodies.
