Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
Henri Langlois edits this montage of silent French films dating back to 1893. The French were technically ahead of their U.S. counterparts until World War I diverted their attention. The history of the filmmaking process and direction is reflective of an era dominated by theatrical props and makeup. Despite their primitive equipment, the imagination of the creators must be admired.
