Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

Beto Brant directed this suspenseful Brazilian thriller about four friends who were tortured by a cop when they were political activists during the '70s. Years later, Miguel, Osvaldo, Eloi, and Paolo still get together for regular fishing trips. The cop was responsible for the death of Miguel's pregnant girlfriend, so when Miguel learns that he's actually not dead as they had all thought, he talks the others into helping him get revenge. Arriving in the rural village where the cop breeds fighting cocks, they ambush him on a country road, and Miguel kills him. Then Miguel reveals that one member of their group had betrayed the other three. The taut tale intercuts past and present. Shown at the 1998 Venice Film Festival.
