Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The movie history of Mary Shelley's 19th-century horror novel Frankenstein is traced in this well-crafted documentary. With mostly public-domain material at his disposal, filmmaker Ted Newsom follows the gigantic footsteps of the Frankenstein monster from his Universal Pictures days to his Technicolor glory at Britain's Hammer Films. Most of the clips are culled from trailers for such Universal classics as Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man. Also generously represented are the coming-attraction reels for Hammer's Evil of Frankenstein, And Frankenstein Created Woman et. al. Newsreel and TV interviews with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. are sagaciously inserted in the proceedings.
