Filmmaker Maziar Bahari spotlights the Iranian government's use of torture and brutal interrogation techniques to extract intelligence from its citizens by speaking with a variety of respected journalists, authors, and scholars who have suffered such horrific treatment firsthand. Inspired to expose the dark side of the Iranian government after being forced to make a false confession in 2009, Bahari speaks with literary magazine publisher Faraj Sarkoohi, noted activists Ali Afshari and Omid Memarian, philosopher Ramin Rahanbegloo, and the wife and daughter of the late journalist Siamak Pourzand about their harrowing experiences under the rule of the Islamic regime, which has frequently been accused of valuing might and power over human rights.
