Fools for Luck (1917)

Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Philander (Taylor Holmes) has embraced every superstition imaginable, from hoarding rabbit's foots and horseshoes to avoiding the third light on a match. But his luck manages to run out anyway -- he loses his girl, Brunhilda (Helen Ferguson) and his job. He refuses to believe that perhaps this is due to his drinking and gambling, preferring instead to blame the ladder he walked under. Finally he gives up the booze and the cards, gets another job, and gets back the girl. This well-timed light comedy was based on a Saturday Evening Post story by Kenneth Harris.
