The proud Margarete Simon is new to the nursing home and she is not particularly enthused about the change of scenery. And rightly so, thinks Eckehardt Tiedgen, who would also prefer to live alone than supervised. Physical therapy and book clubs are the epitome of boredom for him. When the residents of the nursing home board round trip in the propeller plane, Tiedgen has an idea that he hopes will impress the beautiful Margarete. As soon as the plane is stable in the air, he heads into the cockpit and comes out the new captain. Per democratic vote, the group decides its own abduction: the sea. They want to break out to be free to give into their desires and exercise their last chance to fulfill their dreams. But the hijacking does not go unnoticed. While the press and police speculate what happened and how to fix things, the seniors continue to fly further south, until they inevitably run out of fuel.
