Lige Higbee (Milton Ross) is bringing his wife and his adopted daughter, Sal (Dorothy Dalton), across the plains to the California gold mines, but he's waylaid by a roulette wheel in a saloon. Sal goes after him only to find he has lost everything. She gambles with the proprietor, Dandy Dave Hammond (William Conklin), to get it all back but loses and has to remain at the saloon herself. Within a few months she has become the queen of the dance hall, known as "Flare-Up" Sal. The Red Rider, a gentleman bandit (Thurston Hall), wants to meet her, but since he can't show his face around town, he disguises himself as a preacher. Dandy Dave is afraid that this "preacher" will ruin his business, so he schemes with Sal to run him out of town. But Sal has grown to like the guy, so she double crosses Dave. Then the Red Rider tosses off his preacher outfit and shoots up the dance hall. In the ensuing melee, he and Sal run off together and get married. This picture was somewhat similar to a feature released a few months earlier, Golden Rule Kate, which starred Louise Glaum and an up-and-coming young actor named John Gilbert.
