Synopsis by Mark Deming
Two men, separated by both age and social class, are brought together by fate in this drama. In 1982, reporter Qian Wei (Li Mengnan) was riding his motorcycle though a narrow alley when he accidentally struck an elderly man, Zhai (Lu Qi). While Zhai was shaken by the incident, he was not seriously injured, and rather than get the police involved in the matter, Qian and his sometimes short-tempered wife (Liu Xin) agree with Zhai's family to make lunch for the old man on a daily basis. While Qian is hardly enthusiastic about the idea at first, in time he becomes friends with Zhai, and while Qian had never been able to bond with his father, in Zhai he found a paternal figure who gave his life a sense of solidity and purpose.
