Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This CW reality-dating series could be described as a master blend of The Bachelor and Green Acres, with a dash of The Simple Life thrown in. Based on the popular British ITV1 network series of the same name, Farmer Wants a Wife gathered together ten city-bred women of various professions (teacher, accountant, marketing rep, entertainer etc.) who claimed to be fed up with life in the fast lane and bad dating experiences. These ladies then competed to become the bride of a handsome bachelor farmer. First, however, the, contestants would have to prove themselves worthy of being rural brides, and that meant getting up in the morning to milk the cows, drive the tractor around the North 40, spending the day with rustic household chores, and enduring a social life consisting largely of bingo games, box socials and square dances. At the end of each episode, one of the prospective brides would be eliminated by the bachelor himself, who set the standards by which his future bride would be measured (for example, one girl was bounced after refusing to reach under a hen to retrieve an egg). Since the entertainment value of the series lay in the efforts by the cosmopolitan contestants to adapt to a simpler life, it was necessary to find a farm that was suitable primitive: ironically, the bachelor chosen for Season One lived in a home that was deemed too "modern", and thus he was moved to the less fashionable digs of his next-door neighbor. Farmer Wants a Wife debuted April 30, 2008.
