A young widow schemes to avenge the death of her worthless husband in this silent melodrama starring Adda Gleason. Mistakenly believing that steel mill owner Nicholas Eyre (J. Barney Sherry caused the death of her spouse, Mary Lathrop secures a position as his secretary. Having fallen in with a group of anarchists lead by the wild-eyed Professor Groesbeck (William V. Mong), Mary uses her position to engender bad blood among the workers, who go on strike. But when she learns that Groesbeck and his minions are planning to bomb the mill, Mary regrets her decision and convinces the striking workers to help defeat the gang. With Groesbeck killed in a vat of molten lava and the factory saved, Mary discovers that she had misjudged Nicholas, with whom she has fallen in love. A minor leading lady of the era, Adda Gleason is perhaps best remembered for starring in the independently produced The Spirit of '76, a revolutionary melodrama banned for being overly critical of Great Britain.
