Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar
Part of the Famous Composers video series, this documentary tells the story of composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Most known for his nine symphonies, Beethoven also made a name for himself with his piano concertos, sonatas, and chamber music. During the last ten years of his life, after he was already successful as a composer, he lost his hearing. This obstacle frustrated him at first, but did not stop him from composing. His final symphony, including the famous Ode to Joy, was composed entirely after his hearing loss. Beethoven remains one of the most admired musicians in history, inspiring the careers of famous composers Felix Mendelssohn, Richard Wagner, and Johannes Brahms. The famed Elysian Ensemble provides the musical accompaniment for this video.
