Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

Part of the Famous Composers video series, this documentary tells the story of 19th century German composer Franz Schubert. Considered one of the most prolific composers of his time, Schubert is most known for his songwriting ability. By the age of 19, he had already written more than 200 songs, three complete masses, and many other compositions. Although he worked in other forms of musical composition, from opera to symphonies to masses to chamber music, his songs remain some of the most famous pieces he has written. During his life, his musical talent was primarily reserved for private gatherings, not for profit. His body of work consists of over 300 sonatas, 600 songs, and nine symphonies, two of which were performed only after his death at the age of 31. The famed Elysian Ensemble provides the musical accompaniment for this video.
