Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This documentary explores the time period after the withdrawal of the American troops from Vietnam in 1975. Increasing civil unrest and opposition to the war prompted President Gerald Ford to order the U.S. fighting forces out of Saigon. This left the South Vietnamese allies without support from their American benefactor. The deteriorating situation, as South Vietnamese forces faced the Viet Cong alone, is chronicled in this documentary. On-location film footage, interviews, and personal recollections tell the story. Both President Ford and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger are featured speaking about this turbulent time in American and world history.
