Synopsis by Mark Deming
While they began their career in 1967 as the British answer to Jefferson Airplane, it didn't take long for Fairport Convention to start looking back into the roots of British folk music, and over the course of their more than three decades together, Fairport has become the best-respected mainstay of the British folk scene. Each year, the band holds a weekend-long festival in Cropredy, England, where the current lineup often reunites with former members and other musical friends to celebrate the band's career and the joyous tradition of British folk music. This video collects over 100 minutes of music from Fairport Convention's 1998 Cropredy Festival, including the songs "Matty Groves," "Who Knows Where the Time Goes," and "Meet on the Ledge."
