Synopsis by Alice Duncan
The Fabulous '60s, a ten-part documentary series narrated by Peter Jennings and originally aired on ABC, is about the turbulent decade when international tensions, philosophical differences, and a movement towards expanding consciousness produced a kaleidoscopic view of life. Excerpts from film and television coverage review significant events in politics, international news, and developments in science and technology. They also provide a look at popular culture, sports, and entertainment. Highlights from the year 1965 include: civil rights demonstrations against unfair voter registration rules -- resulting in the arrest of Martin Luther King Jr. and more than 2,600 others; the murder of Black leader Malcolm X; and six days of race-related riots in the Watts residential area of Los Angeles.
