Synopsis by Sally Barber
A four-part series, Exploring Environments examines the ways in which animals adapt to different and distinct habitats. Footage captures exotic creatures in their home environments and raises awareness of the complexities of the natural world. Part three, At Home on the Barrier Reef, explores the fragile environment of the Great Barrier Reef off the Australian coast. The Reef sustains life for 1,500 species of fish, 4,000 types of mollusks, and 200 species of birds. A wildlife ranger hosts the program, comparing the reef to a multistory building where a diverse collection of residents take shelter at various levels. Program highlights include striking footage of this underwater world. Other programs in the series are At Home in the Rain Forest, Frogs and Toads, and Reptiles. The programs are best suited for elementary and junior high youth.
