Synopsis by Mark Deming
Filmmaker Mikala Krogh ponders some questions about the nature of human joy and suffering in this unusual non-fiction feature. In Alt er Relativt (aka Everything Is Relative), Krogh compares and contrasts some of the most powerful moments of human experience -- childbirth, love, sex, pain, disease, death -- and ponders the notion of a universal scale of human emotion. Do we all feel the same feelings, and if so, how can the happiness or despair of one family be judged in the same way as the experiences of another group of people on the other side of the world with their own set of life lessons? Assembled from newsreel footage and new material created by Krogh, Everything Is Relative explores the common experiences that bring humanity together as well as the truly individual experiences that makes us all unique. Everything Is Relative was an official selection at the 2008 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
