The wickedly, unabashedly experimental rock band Estradasphere - Tim Harris, Jason Schimmel, Tim Smolens, John Wooley and Dave Murray - formed out of a UC Santa Cruz music clique and pulled heavily from such esoteric influences as Mr. Bungle and Secret Chiefs 3. The band (which preemed in the early 2000s) featured a bizarre, occasionally dissonant amalgam of bluegrass, heavy metal, jazz, video game tunes and any number of other sources that gave them an admittedly distinct sound. The performance release Estradasphere: Palace of Mirrors Live finds the outfit tackling a live set before an audience, with tunes culled from its fifth studio outing, Palace of Mirrors.
