This performance video is a dance tribute to the danseur noble and choreographer, Erik Bruhn. Born in Denmark, Bruhn began dancing in the 1930s. He performed with dance companies all over the world, from Denmark to America to Australia. He worked with the American Ballet Company in New York, and choreographed for the Roman Opera Ballet. Bruhn became ballet director for the Royal Swedish Opera House, and then Canada's National Ballet. An accomplished group of performers from the companies he worked with give interpretations of choreographed dances by Bruhn and others. The occasion for this gala is the awarding of the first Erik Bruhn Prize.
